Language Agent Tree Search Unifies Reasoning Acting and Planning in Language Models
While language models (LMs) have shown potential across a range of decision-making tasks, their reliance on simple acting processes limits their broad deployment as autonomous agents. In this paper, we introduce Language Agent Tree Search (LATS) -- the first general framework that synergizes the capabilities of LMs in reasoning, acting, and planning. By leveraging the in-context learning ability of LMs, we integrate Monte Carlo Tree Search into LATS to enable LMs as agents, along with LM-powered value functions and self-reflections for proficient exploration and enhanced decision-making. A key feature of our approach is the incorporation of an environment for external...

The name Satoshi Nakamoto first appeared in a white paper titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" in 2008, which outlined the technical framework and underlying principles of Bitcoin. The paper was released under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and was later followed by the launch of Bitcoin in 2009. Attempts to uncover the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto have been unsuccessful, leading to various speculations and theories about who may be behind the pseudonym.

EP12: The Many Blessings And Curses on House Targaryen | Fire and Blood | Andy's Book Club
When the gods take with one hand, they give with the other. Over the years, the Good Queen Alysanne would be blessed with many more children. But at the same time, tragedies would strike as she would lose a few children as well, due to disease and other complications. The realm, although otherwise prosperous under the good rule of Jaehaerys, would be struck with an unusually cold winter and a pandemic called the Shivers. The wheel of fortune turns, and there's no way for even House Targaryen, as powerful as they are, to escape the whims of fortune.

EP11: The Good Queen Alysanne | Fire and Blood | Andy's Book Club
The reign of Jaehaerys and Alysanne is considered to be a golden age for Westeros. Under the watchful eyes of the King and Queen, the populations of all major cities in Westeros grew, and food prices fell. However, not all was going perfectly. The Princess Aerea, daughter of Rhaena and niece to Jaehaerys, was still missing. She had ran away from home on the back of Balerion. Further, Elissa Farman had stolen three dragon eggs from Dreamfyre and was still at large. All this was going on while delegations arrived from Tyrosh and Pentos. The two city states had...

The wheel of fortune turns. Sometimes when the gods give with one hand they take with the other. The years leading up to 54 AC would bring with it many joyous events such as the birth of King Jaehaery's new half brother. However, other tragedies would befall House Targaryen with the deaths of Queen Dowager Alyssa, the High Septon, and the tragedy involving Rhaena's husband Androw Farman who finally had enough of abuse and ridicule from Rhaena and decided to take his revenge in a violent way.

Episode 15: On Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
A Central Bank Digital Currency, or CBDC for short, is a digital version of a fiat currency that is issued directly by the government/central bank. People often confuse CBDCs with cryptocurrencies since they are both digital in nature, but that's about where the similarities end. CBDCs centralizes power to one entity, the government, while Bitcoin decentralizes power to individuals. This difference is extremely important. CBDCs have massive potential to be abused by the government by method of locking people out of financial services at the flip of a switch, or just generally denying freedoms for individuals. Imagine that...

EP9: The Doctrine of Exceptionalism | Fire and Blood | Andy's Book Club
Jaehaerys was apprehensive about announcing his marriage to the realm. He had seen the kind of pushback his older siblings, Rhaena and Aegon the Uncrowned, had received when they announced their marriage. Jaehaerys wanted to make absolutely sure that there would be no Faith rebellion. To this end, he assembled a team of seven preachers, whose job it would be to travel all over Westeros and argue for the Doctrine of Exceptionalism. The Doctrine of Exceptionalism states that Targaryens ought to be treated differently compared to other people, since Targaryens were descendants of Old Valyria, whose people practiced incest...

After the terror of Maegor the Cruel, Jaehaerys, the 3rd son of King Aenys and Queen Alyssa, and grandson of Aegon the Conqueror, ascended the Iron Throne at the tender age of 14. The realm held its breath in nervous anticipation, having been traumatized by the Maegor in recent years. Jaehaerys would meet many challenges immediately, such as how to deal with the Faith of the Seven and a small rebellion led by a loud, fat, and charismatic septon named Septon Moon. Can Jaehaerys undo the damage that had been done and lead Westeros into a golden age?

Episode 12: Bitcoin + Energy = ? | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
This week I address the age-old criticism of bitcoin and its energy usage. Is Bitcoin a worthwhile endeavour for us to be spending our electricity on, and why is it a bad idea if we switch bitcoin to another consensus method such as Proof of Stake which uses less energy? Does the pathway to a sustainable future even require that we use less energy? Since demonstrably, humans use more energy even on a per capita basis, compared to humans 1000 years ago. I answer all these questions and provide my viewpoint.

The list of atrocities committed by Maegor grew large and the realm would forever ensure that someone like Maegor shall never rule again.

EP5: The Troubles of King Aenys | Fire and Blood | Andy's Book Club
The troubles for King Aenys started immediately as he ascended the Iron Throne. Throughout Westeros, opportunistic rebels launched revolts, and King Aenys was slow to react. In the end it was only with the help of his lords and Queen Dowager Visenya, that the rebels were put down one by one. However, even though he had survived the revolts, the growing rifts from within the Targaryen family were starting to show. A rift between the Crown and the Faith of the Seven was also spiraling out of control.

Episode 10: The Byzantine Generals Problem and Nakamoto Consensus | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
The Byzantine Generals Problem is an issue that presents itself in distributed computer networks. A blockchain is an example of a decentralized distributed computer network. How do we keep such a system in sync when there is no central authority to run the network? If an outage occurs, how can a decentralized distributed network recover from such an outage? Bitcoin solves the Byzantine Generals Problem in a unique way. Bitcoin relies on a consensus model that bears the name of its creator and is aptly called the Nakamoto Consensus.

EP4: The Reign of the Dragon | Fire and Blood | Andy's Book Club
King Aegon was now tired of wars, having paid a price too high in the First Dornish War, with the death of his beloved wife Rhaenys. Now was a time for peace and reconciliation. To this end, Aegon would be known just as much for his reforms and he was for his wars. Under Aegon's reign, he standardized many rules regarding governance and taxation, led the rebuilding of King's Landing, and established many of the positions of the Small Council that we would recognize today. However, even Aegon realized that he could not live forever. The question of succession...

Episode 9: Bitcoin is Peace, Fiat is War | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
This week we explore more moral reasons why bitcoin should succeed. Tossing aside technological and economical reasons for just a moment, what moral benefits can be derived from using Bitcoin instead of fiat as our monetary standard? Fiat requires an army to back it, which triggers an arms race between countries who want to protect their fiat currency's power. Most of the wars in human history were fought over the allocation of resources. Gold is a resource that can be forcibly taken. We'll revisit how bitcoin's "non-confiscatable" property can be used to prevent conflicts.

Episode 8: Can Deflation Be Good? | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
Is inflation good? Is deflation bad? If you've ever been to any sort of post-secondary education on topics related to economics in the Western world, you've most likely been taught that we need a small amount of inflation, which is good for the economy. However, have you ever stopped to wonder whether this is actually true? Today, we'll explore an alternative viewpoint on the inflation vs deflation debate.

Aegon's forces lands at the mouth of the Blackwater Bay as he erects a crude castle out of wood and dirt called the Aegonfort. The Kings of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros discuss on how to deal with this new enemy. However, they had no answer for Aegon's dragons. One by one, they will all succumb to Aegon's might, save for Dorne, who, through guerrilla warfare tactics, would survive the onslaught of the Targaryen armies and keep their independence. Still, Aegon would mostly succeed in his quest to unite the continent of Westeros and henceforth be known as Aegon...

Episode 7: Flywheels and the Bitcoin Black Hole | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
A flywheel, or more scientifically known as a "positive feedback loop", is a system where the output of that system is also the input that's needed to keep the system going. For example, things like social media, emails, fax machines, and Blu-ray players, are all examples of flywheels. Today we go through how bitcoin leverages the idea of flywheels to become the superior store of value, and how bitcoin threatens to eat away at the value of other assets such as gold, bonds, and real estate.

Episode 6: Why Gold Doesn't Work | The Bitcoin Advocate Podcast
We've spent several episodes already talking about the important and pivotal role that gold has played in our history in serving as money. We use the term "gold standard" to describe something that is the best or the highest quality in a given thing's category. So, if gold is so good, why did we leave the Gold Standard and transition to a Fiat Standard? As far as I'm aware, there are no countries on earth that still uses the Gold Standard. So what gives? Why doesn't gold work?

This story portrays an interesting element of World War II that wasn’t often taught in Western history classes – the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. Having it told from the Hong Kong perspective is also unique to us. That being said, the film was made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the fold of China.
