Laura Dern Honors Mom with IPF Awareness
Laura Dern honors late mothers memory by raising awareness for IPF, a progressive lung disease that affected her mother, Diane Ladd. Dern, now 58, vowed to keep raising awareness after Ladds death from IPF in 2025. Ladd was diagnosed with IPF after years of misdiagnosis, and despite a grim prognosis, she lived six more years, starring in movies and writing books. Derns new awareness campaign, Beyond the Scars, aims to educate families about IPF and encourage them to advocate for proper diagnosis and treatment. Checkout Solipillow.com

AI Tools Reveal How IPF and Aging Are Connected
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive lung disease that primarily affects people over the age of 60. It causes scarring in the lung tissue, which gradually reduces lung capacity and makes breathing difficult. Despite years of research, the exact causes of IPF remain largely unknown, and current treatments mainly aim to slow its progression rather than reverse or cure the disease. Because IPF tends to develop later in life, researchers have long suspected a connection with biological aging. This is the focus of a recent study by scientists from Insilico Medicine. Their research, titled “AI-driven toolset for IPF and aging re...

The two of them recently joined legends, phenoms, leaders and top thinkers of the sport like John Haack, Greg Nuckols, Lya Bavoil and others at the 2024 European Powerlifting Conference in Limerick Ireland. The existence of such events is emblematic of powerlifting's growth, but so too is just how competitive IPF powerlifting has become. At 2024 IPF Worlds the podium for the 66kg class was decided by bodyweight, as all three men had identical totals. In this...

50% Facts with Silent Mike & Jim McD
IPF sued for Article 14
The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) has been the only truly “official” vehicle for powerlifters hoping to compete on an international stage. The federation has written into its constitution rules that are supposed to prevent the taint of members participating in untested competitions hosted by other federations, but now it is being used to punish Sean Koch, a dedicated powerlifter from Liechtenstein competing for Switzerland and currently attending university in the US. Due to his scholarship, he’s required to compete in the USAPL (which is no longer affiliated with the IPF). Competing there has drawn a ban from the IPF.

The IPF is coming to CBS?
We didn’t have this announcement on our radar: “The IPF and CBS Sports (broadcaster of the Super Bowl 2024) have signed a multi-year agreement to bring IPF powerlifting to the TV in the USA and the whole of North America.” (Full release here: https://www.powerlifting.sport/about-ipf/news/news-detail/ipf-secures-tv-broadcast-partnership-for-north-america). For tested lifters in the US, does this change the calculus of choosing the IPF-affiliated Powerlifting America versus the larger and more familiar USAPL? And will anyone outside of powerlifting fandom be interested in watching a full meet -- or even a collection of highlights – on broad...
